Dr. Murphy on track

Dr. Murphy understood a great deal for his time, and now science is proving he was pretty much on track. This is no attack on God, but it does stretch those literal translations that many religions would have you believe. Don't be fearful, just open your mind to what God has given you, and use it. Science, by the way, is proving every day that there really is a God, but you can't put him in a neat little box as most would have you believe. Take this information and absolutely change your life for the better!

Great book with lots of powerful information!

I have read all of Dr. Joseph Murphy's books, and this is among his best. It contains lots of helpful information that will help you raise your self-confidence and expand your personal vision. I enjoyed this book and recommend it to those people who are serious about improving their life by increasing their self-esteem and self-confidence.

Always a good read

So many of today's shelf help books are cribbed straight from Dr. Murphy and Napolean Hill. It is good just to go back to the originals. Though he teaches with a lot of references to christianity, a careful reading shows that he was trying to teach people universal ideas in terms they already knew. If you are not christian, look past this to the teachings. They are actually non denominational. And nope, I am not a christian, but I love his books.

Thorough and up-to-date resource!

This book is indispensible as a resource. It didn't quite dawn on me though until AFTER I sold my copy to another classmate after the course was finished. So here I am, buying another copy. The CD is the key to learning what's in the book. There are quizzes, practice tests, and flashcards to help assimilate the material. I will be referring back to this book as I continue my education as a pharmacy technician, and I won't be so quick to sell my books anymore!

Cleansing, I guess is the first step in becoming a healthy person because you will be flushing out toxins out of your body. The content of the book is informative. I mean taking it from the experience of the author. Though the method of cleansing is not for everyone, maybe some will be able to succeed in cleansing following the book.

Nice thought to give to 5 and 6 year olds..

My Kindergartners and I read your book today. What a nice thought. We are learning about our world this month to intergrate the thoughts of why people would consider moving to a new world(the Pilgrims) so we are starting out with the thought of what is a neighborhood? and then proceeding to families and friends--so you started it for us. Thanks.

ANOTHER WONDERFUL ADDITION TO THE FRANKLIN SERIES

It is difficult to find much wrong with this entire series of books and this offering is no different. Franklin, after lengthy study and conversation, comes to the conclusion that the "people" are the true heart of any neighborhood, not the building, parks or location. (Sorry for the spoiler here). I have found this one to be very useful in the classroom, not only to teach that we probably have it pretty good right where we are, but also to teach that it is people who make up the important things in our lives and not things. Franklin, though he my blunder at times, is truely a wise little turtle. The art work is of it's usual high quality that we have come to expect with the Franklin Books. Highly recommend this one.

One of my daughter's favorites

We gave this as a gift to some friends. No text that I skipped or changed while reading this book to my 2 year old. Nothing scary, inappropriate, no examples of bad behavior or anything mean to create drama. Good, positive story. You can tell the story just by pointing to the pictures or reading the text or both. Only confusing thing is one picture where Franklin's toy turtle doll is small sitting on the chair next to him while the "camera" is zoomed in so that Franklin is big. My daughter thought the big turtle was the mom and the doll was Franklin at first, and it took me a while to realize that wasn't a neglected younger brother turtle but just a doll, but now that we've figured all that out we're all set!

Karen A. Studd is master teacher for the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies, teaching internationally in training programs in movement analysis. She is also a professor at George Mason University. A teacher of movement analysis, somatics and dance, her interest is in promoting awareness of human movement as a fundamental body of knowledge. She is frequently sought as a "body language expert" in observation of personal style through the non-verbal communication of political pundits.

Laura L. Cox is a teacher of Laban/Bartenieff Movement Studies, dance, kinesiology and somatics. She has taught internationally and served on the faculties of several universities, including New York University and the University of Nebraska. A Certified Movement Analyst (CMA) and Registered Somatic Movement Educator and Therapist (RSME, RSMT), she has a private practice in movement education and specializes in repatterning the movement of individuals suffering from chronic pain or injury.

Does your body work to your advantage?

I found this book to be scholarly, yet easily readable.
We all should be knowledgeable about the workings of our own bodies. It's a must-read for dancers, gymnasts, or anyone doing physical labor on a daily basis. It's an interesting read for anyone who has had joint problems or who would like to prevent joint problems.

Great read on human movement

I really enjoy reading this book. I don't look at movement the same way at all. It's an incredibly interesting read and look at how and why we move in the various ways that we do.

Highly recommended

What a much needed addition to the literature in the field! As a Certified Movement Analyst (CMA), I fully appreciate what a difficult task the authors undertook. They have managed to articulate the richness and complexity of the work for the layperson, and that is no small accomplishment. The work gets to breathe in this book. All information is given in the context of a clear, yet open-ended, overview of the scope of the work. Concepts are introduced with enough examples to give them an identity and with the understanding that there is more to know if the reader chooses to delve further into the work. I particularly appreciate the inclusion of visual examples that effectively capture the essence of the experiences and remind us that we are part of a world of motion.

About the Author
Michael Murphy is somewhere between eighteen and eighty-eight years old - the number varies from day to day depending on his mood and his energy level. He first thought about writing when he was very young, but put the idea aside in order to celebrate  his fifth birthday and then forgot about it for a year or two. Periodically he toyed with the idea of writing, but each time rejected it as pure folly. It wasn't until he was an old man of twelve that he wrote his first book. A long eighteen year dry spell followed before he wrote his next book.  Whenever he needs a laugh he looks at those early writings.  He has written science fiction, romance, mystery, and has collaborated on one non-fiction history book.  He lives with his two best friends in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States.  When not writing or taking pictures or growing orchids or baking or programming in PHP, he works as an IT guru for a major company, and he and his partner travel - so far 27 countries and 46 states.  Got a lot of world to see yet.  In his spare time he tries to figure out what he wants to do when he grows up.

Missed the mark

From the sample I thought I'd love this book but that didn't end up being the case. I found the "witty" banter over the top and actually quite annoying. Some of the conversations between the two leads were just ridiculous... One example "every day I thank God for you. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me, that could ever happen to me. You are a gift from the heavens above." -Also there was very little conflict in the book and what there was was wrapped up in a neat little package far too easily, and unrealistically. This goes straight to my " once is enough" pile.

Fun story, good read, slightly wordy.

The plot is easy and predictable, the characters sincere and real. The author successfully achieves the goal of making the characters believable, setting each scene and placing them well within those scenes; however, the writing tends to be repetitive in nature, resulting in a slightly slower read as one tries to mentally reduce the wordage to its essence. This style of making a statement, and then confirming it again, and somtimes, again, and then occasionally, again, slows down the reading as one tries to figure out what wasn't necessary to the story.

"Really, how did the man do it that fast? I couldn't even have turned on the water yet, and he was done and back at his locker-naked. Did I say that he was naked? If not, I really should have. He was naked. Gloriously naked. And he wore nudity really, really well."

Some might tend to be overtly critical of this use of repetition, over, and over; however, once adjusted to this style, most readers should be able to return to the real treat of this light hearted romp through this endless quest of seeking true love.

Overall this is an overtly entertaining, funny, filled with mirth, (did I mention funny), sometimes hilarious, occasionally good humored romp through the misadventure of "literally bumping" into love and then, figuring out how to hold on to it. (Did I mention that it's funny?)

Little substance, no character development, not much of a story. The beginning was uninteresting. It got a little better in the middle. The end was a letdown. Lots of interesting possibilities left unrealized. Very weak novel. Almost no dialogue. One learns almost nothing about the two main characters. A missed opportunity. Disappointing.

it's got my attention

Well Cheyenne had to choose she couldn't have her both anymore. Chase want a relationship but Cheyenne wasn't feeling it. She wasn't in love with him. So she couldn't choose him. Now there was Demian she loves him but she thinks all he wants is sex. She told him she couldn't do it anymore and was about to leave. Then Demian told her he didn't do traditional relationship. He talked to her about collars. In the end she decided to give it a try. Damian wanted her.
Wow now I can't wait to see what happens next . Great series

Ok, but Not Unforgettable

Sky Corgan looks at the darker aspects of love, relationships and specifically BDSM. Although her writing is good, and in some cases, unforgettable, I think my own personal aversion to too much "dark" prevents me from full-heartedly praising her.

About the Author

Robby Gallaty (PhD, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary) is the Senior Pastor of Long Hollow Baptist Church in Hendersonville, TN. He was radically saved out of a life of drug addiction on November 12, 2002. In 2008, he founded Replicate Ministries to educate, equip, and empower believers to make disciples who make disciples (replicate.org). He is the author of Rediscovering Discipleship, Growing Up, Firmly Planted, and Bearing Fruit. Robby and his wife Kandi are the proud parents of two sons, Rig and Ryder.

Four Reasons Why You Should Grab This Book Today...

Don’t hesitate to grab this book! There are several reasons why, but here are my top four…

#1 - Heart matters. Discipleship is a buzzword right now, but Robby out the gate informs his readers that the driving motivation for writing this book is to not raise the banner of discipleship. I appreciate Robby’s heart. Up and above anything Gallaty feels called to cultivate a deeper walk with Jesus. Knowing more about Christ is not true discipleship (information), but rather intimately knowing Jesus more leads to a life of obedience, which is authentic discipleship (imitation). As Robby states: “When a person grows closer to Christ, the yield will be discipleship.” (15) This is a message the church must be reminded of daily, so that we don’t lose an understanding of what biblical discipleship truly is.

#2 - History matters. Gallaty offers us in Rediscovering Discipleship an extensive historical and cultural background of discipleship on Jesus’ terms. We have to begin to “think like a Hebrew,” and then prayerfully consider what the path of discipleship looks like for us today. In addition, Robby surveys many key historical figures (Augustine, Luther, Wesley, etc.) and their approaches to making faithful disciples in their time. His chapter on John Wesley’s discipleship methods is outstanding and will sharpen any church leader or layperson to consider if their model and methods today are effective at making disciples.

#3 - Time Matters. In a McChristian culture where people “want it now,” we have to slow down, and begin to set reasonable goals for spiritual growth. Gallaty provides a realistic tone, pace, and vigor in which discipleship should take place. Robby quotes Richard Foster who says it best: “Our tendency is to overestimate what we can accomplish in 1 year, but underestimate what we can accomplish in 10 years.” (138)

#4 - Metrics Matter. Robby hits the nail on the head with this statement: “the metrics you use to determine success or failure should match the nature of the process and the purpose for which it was designed.” (184) Gallaty provides his metrics (MARCS - missional, accountable, reproducible, communal, and scriptural) to determine if genuine discipleship is happening in the context of his local church. It’s important to remember that metrics are simple tools that help one (in the context of community) tangibly see how they are conforming to the image of Christ. You will be challenged to evaluate if your present metrics are working!

This is a must have book on discipleship by Robby Gallaty. The term "discipleship" has become a buzzword in recent years. It need not be.

Gallaty describes the ultimate end goal of discipleship as "to be conformed into the image of Christ - to talk the way he talked, walk the way he walked, and respond the way he responded" (Gallaty, 2015, p 79). Christian, are you making it your ultimate goal to accomplish this task with your time?

In the foreword, Ed Stetzer calls the reader to reflect on personal engagement by asking: "are we seeking God in prayer, spending time in his Word, and surrounding ourselves with people who will challenge us to grow in our spiritual lives?" (Gallaty, 2015, p. 11). In Rediscovering Discipleship, Gallaty first calls his readers to know Jesus before going on mission, and then outlines a method for making disciples. Stetzer affirms this call to know Jesus by commenting, "Too many of us are so focused on what we're supposed to do for Jesus that we lose focus on Jesus himself" (Gallaty, 2015, p. 12). In fact, Gallaty mentions his purpose for writing the book was as a "clarion call for cultivating a deeper walk with Christ" (Gallaty, 2015, p. 15).

An area of extreme intrigue for this lover of Biblical Hebrew and Discipleship is that his book marries the importance between the two. Gallaty takes the reader through how a Hebrew thinker would have processed the Old Testament and the New Testament and argues that our current interpretation of our purpose in the world has been confused over generations of believers analyzing Scripture from a modern perspective, rather than trying to understand the author's original intent. For me, this area of Rediscovering Discipleship alone makes it worth adding to your library.

Gentlemen, this is a Football!

Another great read from Robby Gallaty. Rediscovering Discipleship, adds to and expounds on "Growing Up" as a staple in your discipleship arsenal. This book provides the next layer of reinforcement to the foundation laid in the previous two books. The great Vince Lombardi used to begin every year's camp by holding up a football and stating, "gentlemen, this is a football." The point was, no matter where you are in your development, the basics are foundational and must be reinforced. If Vince Lombardi were a preacher, this would be his, "this is a football" book.
